Volunteer Leader Roles & Expectations

Roles

These are the two major types of weekly volunteer roles in our Youth Ministry:

Support Volunteers: use specific skills and abilities to help our Youth Ministry programs run smoothly

Small Group Leaders: shepherd students to know God, experience His love through community, and make God known

Support Staff Expectations

Qualified

  • Have a personal relationship with Christ
  • Gather, Grow, Go actively at Arbor Road Church

Consistent

  • Leading at the weekly meetings you’ve committed to
  • If you plan on missing a meeting or event, give your Department Lead a week’s notice

Prepared

  • Be physically prepared to participate in the activities of that day
  • Arrive promptly at call time (15 or 30 min before the meeting starts depending on the ministry)
  • Be mentally prepared to interact with kids or students and their families
  • Review materials for the meeting and be ready to engage with kids and students, and ready to be attentive

Caring

Kids, Students, & Parents

  • Communicate care while interacting with kids, students, parents, and fellow leaders during the meeting
  • Be in contact with your students during the week and spend time with them, follow up on what was shared
  • Understand your role is different than a friend; you are there to support them and to point them to Jesus by speaking the truth in love

Leaders

  • Respect the leadership of Arbor Road Church and those you serve alongside

Small Group Leader Expectations

Qualified

  • Have a personal relationship with Christ
  • Living within the qualifications for leadership in 1 Tim. 3:8-13
  • Gather, Grow, Go actively at Arbor Road Church

Consistent

  • Leading at the Weekly Meetings you’ve committed to
  • If you plan on missing a meeting or event, give your Department Lead a week’s notice
  • Regularly participating in Events & Training
  • Look at the quarterly calendar and respond to ArborRoad.com RSVP invites
  • Be at Staff Meetings (Every 6-8 weeks)

Prepared

  • Being physically prepared to participate in the activities of that day
  • Arrive promptly at call time (15 or 30 min before meeting starts, depending on the ministry) dressed appropriately and alert
  • Being mentally prepared to interact with kids or students and their families
  • Review the materials sent and ready to engage with kids and students, ready to be attentive

Praying Consistently

  • Asking God to guide your small group members

Caring

Small Group

  • Be in contact with your students during the week and spend time with them, following up on what was shared
  • Understand your role is different than a friend; you are there to support them and to point them to Jesus by speaking the truth in love

Parents

  • Our hope is that you will come alongside the students’ parents to give them opportunities to be passionate Christ followers and lead their child well

Leaders

  • Respect the leadership of Arbor Road Church and those you serve alongside
